13.20 – 14.30

Keynote speaker: Stedman Graham

Title: ‘Diversity: Leaders not Labels’

Stedman Graham is known as partner of megastar and talk show host Oprah Winfrey. He has a splendid career as an international renowned diversity specialist. In his recent book Diversity: Leaders not Labels – a new plan for the 21st century Graham confronts employers and employees in the United States with a clear choice: participate in diversity or drop out of the worldwide labor market that is increasingly varied and multinational. This message applies undiminished for Europe. Stedman Graham regards cultural diversity as inevitable and approaches the problem from the broad perspective of (profit) opportunities and excellent leadership. Employees are in his view obliged to utilize their talents fully and to consider their ethnic descent not as a problem (label), but as an added value.

14.35 - 15.00

Drs. Adjiedj Bakas, Trend Watcher and Author

Title: ‘The future of diversity in Europe

Trend watcher Adjiedj Bakas, rooted in three continents, is the personification of globalization and diversity. In his image-laden lecture he examines the ageing and reduction of the European population. The imminent clash between generations, outsourcing and the growth of unemployment will be reviewed among others. How should Europe deal with these trends? And how are they reconcilable with the future of migration and cultural diversity?

15.00 - 15.30 Pause

Interval

After the break you can actively take part in one of the intensive and inspiring ‘diversity clinics’. Diversity will here also be approached from the perspective of opportunities for organizations. The aim is to share knowledge and experiences and to formulate solutions. Stedman Graham will be present at each of the five clinics to share his views and experiences.

The clinics last from 15.30 to 17.00

CLINIC 1

Title: ‘Diverse Talent Management – building inclusive learning environments for durable competition benefit’

By: Dr. Lidewey E.C. van der Sluis, Director Nyenrode Center for Talent Management and founder of the Powerhouse Contest for Talent

Content: Dr. Van der Sluis explains the challenges that are facing managers leading talented employees. She will present a model for successful talent managing by creating so-called inclusive learning environments. This enables managers to really make their diversity policy work en transform it into concrete added value for the organization.

CLINIC 2

Title: ‘Enlarge the difference to make a difference’

By: Drs. Josette de Goede, Director In Company & International Affairs, Strategic

Intelligence of De Baak Management Centre VNO/NCW

Content: We are all trying very hard to make the world a better place and ban discrimination. In doing so, we seem to get rid of the beauty of differences. Diversity leads to excellent results, we say, but this is hardly reflected in the practice of co-operation. How do we keep the challenge and tension of differences intact and deal in the best way with amazement, surprise, annoyance and admiration?

CLINIC 3

Title:  ‘Selection without borders’

By: Martijn van der Woude, General Manager of PiCompany

Content: The great diversity on the labour market and increasing internationalisation call for a different way of selecting employees. For how can people with different cultural backgrounds and educations be compared in an equal way? The available selection methods do not account for this changing labour market; they are not internationally standardized and provide no fair comparison.

In co-operation with a renowned university, PiCompany has developed a pioneering solution for national and international active companies, minority and governmental organizations. In this workshop Martijn van der Woude, General Manager of PiCompany, will explore the possibilities to make ‘selection without borders’ a reality.

CLINIC 4

Title: ‘Diversity in small-scale businesses - surplus value, surplus profit’

By: Ad de Ruijter, Programme manager DIV, Landelijk Netwerk Diversiteitsmanagement

Content: In the near future, ageing will cause a considerable discharge of personnel. At the same time the labour market is reducing: the volume of recent graduates will be insufficient to compensate for this discharge, and the shortages will rapidly increase when the economy picks up. Organizations who realize that the deployment of migrants, women and seniors – ‘unutilised potential’ – is a necessity, will experience less problems later on and will be able to expand their clientele, says De Ruijter. In 2006, the disposable income of migrants in Holland amounted to 16 billion euros, of seniors a multiple. Besides that there is another important problem: in the years to come, around 100,000 small-scale businesses will probably not be able to arrange for a successor. If these businesses fail to meet this problem, they will in the future not only suffer a greater shortage of staff and less income, but also find their very existence in jeopardy.

CLINIC 5

Title: ‘Diversity as a business case’

By:  Ir. Mohamed El Achkar, Change Manager Diversity & Inclusion TNT Post

Content: With its new active diversity policy, TNT Post aims to create a culture with room for differences between people. The message is: diversity is a business case. El Achkar shows how this can be effected on various levels: in the fields of commerce, Human Resources and durable entrepreneurship. In addition, he shows how TNT has succeeded in expanding the managers’ awareness of diversity.

After the clinics the collective program continues.

17.00 - 17.10

Title: ‘Connections around diversity’

By: Mr. Prem Radhakisun, TV programme maker, columnist
